In November of 2009, we were approached by MicroLight Corporation to introduce their therapeutic laser into veterinary medicine. The ML830® laser is a device designed by a team of medical doctors and medical engineers to deliver low level laser therapy (LLLT) into tissues for a variety of effects. These include pain control and healing.
This instrument was approved by the FDA in 2002 for use in human medicine after over a decade of research in its effectiveness for carpal tunnel syndrome. It has been used extensively by thousands of doctors and therapists for a variety of conditions over the past eight years.
Our hospital was assigned to evaluate the effectiveness of this therapy in dogs and cats due to our extensive experience and training with surgical lasers. After pouring over hundreds of clinical and research abstracts on LLLT we were presented with an ML830® therapeutic laser to develop effective treatment protocols for other animal clinics. Once a rough draft of protocols was introduced, dozens more units were delivered into the hands of a select few veterinary hospitals and clinics, restricted to this region so that we may meet and refine our methodology as our combined experiences accumulate.
A few months later we added a class IV laser and started consulting for LiteCure, LLC and their class IV Companion® Therapy Laser which received FDA approval in 2005.
Although we have used these technologically advanced devices for just a few months, we are already experiencing surprisingly positive results for many of our patients. We enjoy sharing our experiences with others and expect therapeutic lasers to become an important part of many clinics in the near future.
In this section you will find more information on lasers and our experiences as they unfold; for the veterinarian, there is a section to download protocols, technical information, therapy logs, as well as case studies.
